Grußwort des Herrn Dr. Stephan Keller, Oberbürgermeister der Landeshauptstadt Düsseldorf und Schirmherr des Düssel-Cups
Liebe Teilnehmende und Gäste des Düssel-Cups und des Outreach-Programms 2026!
Herzlich willkommen in Düsseldorf!
Der Düssel-Cup ist ein Fest des Sports und zugleich ein Statement. Er steht für Fairness, Respekt und Zugehörigkeit. Werte, die wir im Sport wie in unserer Stadt leben. Doch vielerorts ist die LSBTIQ+-Community noch immer Diskriminierung und Bedrohungen ausgesetzt. Umso wichtiger ist ein Turnier, das ein klares Zeichen für ein respektvolles Miteinander setzt.
Dass dieses Event in Düsseldorf stattfindet, passt zu unserer Stadt. Düsseldorf versteht sich als Ort der Vielfalt, an dem Toleranz das Zusammenleben von Menschen unterschiedlichster Herkunft, Lebensweisen und Weltanschauungen prägt. Als Landeshauptstadt arbeiten wir daran, dass diese Haltung im Alltag spürbar wird. Mit dem Aktionsplan LSBTIQ+ stärken wir die Sichtbarkeit und Akzeptanz der queeren Community in Bildung, Kultur, Verwaltung und Sport. Gemeinsam mit vielen Akteurinnen und Akteuren treten wir konsequent dafür ein, dass Düsseldorf ein sicherer Ort für alle bleibt.
Vor diesem Hintergrund hat der Düssel-Cup eine besondere Bedeutung. Er zählt zu den größten queeren Multisportevents Europas und findet seit 2007 in unserer Stadt statt. Sehr gern habe ich erneut die Schirmherrschaft übernommen.
Wie viel Kraft von diesem Turnier ausgeht, zeigt sich besonders im Outreach-Programm. Für die Teilnehmenden ist der Düssel-Cup weit mehr als eine Sportveranstaltung: ein Wochenende, an dem sie sich frei entfalten, unbeschwert zusammenkommen und in einer solidarischen Gemeinschaft neue Stärke finden können.
Damit all das möglich wird, braucht es viele engagierte Menschen. Ich danke dem Organisationsteam, den Helferinnen und Helfern und den beteiligten Vereinen sehr herzlich. Allen Sportlerinnen und Sportlern wünsche ich faire und spannende Wettkämpfe, unvergessliche Begegnungen, viel Erfolg und vor allem Freude an diesem besonderen Miteinander.

Dear participants of the Düssel-Cup and the Outreach Program 2026!
A very warm welcome to Düsseldorf!
The Düssel-Cup is both a celebration of sport and a strong statement. It stands for fairness, respect, and belonging. While the LGBTIQ+ community still faces discrimination and hostility in many places, a tournament that clearly promotes mutual respect is more important than ever.
This event is taking place in Düsseldorf for a reason. Our city stands for diversity and tolerance, and for the respectful coexistence of people with different backgrounds, lifestyles, and views. We are committed to ensuring that these values are reflected in everyday life. Through our LGBTIQ+ Action Plan, we actively promote the visibility and acceptance of the queer community in education, culture, public administration, and sport. Together with many partners, we work continuously to ensure that Düsseldorf remains a safe place for everyone.
The Düssel-Cup is one of the largest queer multisport events in Europe and has been hosted in our city since 2007. I am delighted to once again support this special event.
For many participants in the Outreach Program, the Düssel-Cup is far more than a sporting competition. It is a weekend where they can express themselves freely, come together without fear, and draw strength from a supportive community.
This would not be possible without the dedication of so many people. I would like to sincerely thank the organizing team, the volunteers, and the participating clubs. I wish all athletes fair and exciting competitions, memorable encounters, great success, and above all, the joy of sharing this unique sense of community.
